Colin Scott

We are delighted that following a discussion with 1992 promotion winning player Colin Scott, he has agreed to become one of our Ambassadors. We look forward to working with Colin to drive CISS and other club initiatives forward.

Colin Scott hails from Leith and played for the famous Salvesen’s Boys Club from the age of just 9 years old. In 1981, he signed for Hearts aged just 15 and made his first team debut for the Jam Tarts on his 17th birthday. This was the Hearts team of Colquhoun, Robertson, Mackay and Levein but unfortunately for Scottie he suffered two serious injuries in quick succession, and he was unable thereafter to break through into the 1st team.

Colin then joined East Fife, but he was never happy at Methil. In 1989, he met Cowden boss John Brownlie at the Barnton Hotel in Edinburgh and was persuaded to join Cowden in a swap deal involving Alan McGonigal. Colin still recalls – ‘That was the best thing I ever did in my entire football career. I loved it at Central Park and learned so much there. You couldn’t beat the camaraderie of the team John Brownlie built at Cowdenbeath’’.

Scottie was an instant fan favourite at Central Park. He was a tenacious but talented player on the left side of a midfield which lined up Wright, Malone, Irvine, Scott. He was then a key part of the Cowden side which won promotion at Alloa in 1992. He played in many other memorable matches in his 5 years with Cowden – at Ibrox, 0-0 in the Cup v Hibs, and the 2-0 win at East End where Scottie was named the man of the match. Colin played 152 matches for Cowden and along with Davie Watt was the last of the 1992 promotion side to leave Central Park. Spells at East Stirling, Stenhousemuir and Civil Service Strollers then followed but Colin’s best days were certainly spent at Central Park. It was a delight to see him again last season when we held a team reunion event at Wee Jimmies.

What many will not know is that Colin comes from a family of pipers. His team-mates from Cowdenbeath were all at his wedding and were amazed when Colin played the pipes that day. His old club Hearts have often called on his piping services - he has played at Tynecastle in the Remembrance Day matches on 5 occasions. He has also played at the club’s Remembrance Day services at Haymarket, plus had the great honour of playing at Dave Mackay’s funeral.
